Zurich
Car Hire – Getting around Switzerland
by car is quite easy as most of the traffic signs
are similar to the ones used internationally. Many
are self-explanatory. The minimum age to rent a car
is 21 years old. If you are renting large car or luxury
car the minimum age is 25 years. Drivers must possess
a valid license issued at least one year before the
date of rental.
Take note, to drive on the right side of the road
while in Switzerland. Traffic coming from the right
has the right of way, unless indicated by road sign.
Driving on the Swiss highway requires a Vignette,
a road toll. Most cars rented in Switzerland come
with the Vignette, but not those from another country.
This Vignette can be conveniently purchased at the
custom, post offices and petrol stations.
Parking a Car in Zurich is difficult
and expensive as compare with other Swiss cities.
All of the Old Town and certain part of the central
commercial district are totally off limit. It is advisable
to check with the hotel, which you are staying in
advance for parking space. Some of the hotels offer
free or discounted parking space.
