1467 Purchase of Winterthur from

1519 Huldrych Zwingli starts Swiss

1529 Zurich Bible published; First
complete translation of the Bible in German.
1648 Swiss Declaration of Independence
19th Century Zurich evolves as the
main Swiss centre for commerce and transport.
1833 University of Zurich founded.
First university in Europe to accept women students.
1835 Steamships charted the water
of Lake Zurich.
