Museums – Different types of museum
can be spotted all over Switzerland. Art museum is
famous in Zurich and the Old Town itself has about
30 museums. We have listed a number of Museums in
Zurich that we think are worth checking out while
you are visiting Zurich.
Swiss National Museum
This castle-like museum exhibits items related to
Switzerland and Swiss culture. These include not only
paintings and sculpture but also weapons, flags, watches,
clocks, tools, toys and prehistoric objects. Artefacts
range from the Stone Age to modern times.

Museum of Contemporary Art
This museum dedicate to collecting and exhibiting
contemporary art, especially from the 1990s. It exhibits
predominately works from Migros Co-operative Society.
There are both solo and group exhibitions.

Museum Rietberg
This impressive Museum of Non-European Art consists
of three buildings. Two of these are located within
the Rieterpark. The Villa Wesendonck has special exhibitions
and collection of Indian, Chinese and African art.
The Park-Villa Rieter has paintings from China, Japan
and India. The third building, Haus zum Kiel, has
rotating exhibitions. Occasionally world music concerts
are held in the Park-Villa Rieter.

Zurich Art Gallery (Kunsthaus Zürich)
If you have time for only one art museum, this is
the one to visit. Switzerland’s best and Zurich’s
most important art gallery. Its’ paintings and
sculptures are mainly works from 19th and 20th centuries
by Swiss and International masters. Tours conduct
in English have to be reserved in advance. The gallery
is currently being renovated, and is due to reopen
in 2005.
